Choose the purpose before the paperwork

The Philippines is in the visa-required list under EU Regulation 2018/1806. An Emirates ID does not by itself replace the European visa requirement.

First decide what the journey really involves. Visiting a sibling, taking a self-funded holiday and travelling with an employer’s household raise different evidence questions. Do not choose “tourist” just because it sounds simpler.

If someone is paying for you

Write down whether the person is your UAE residence sponsor, your host in Europe, your employer or the person paying travel costs. One person can perform several roles, but do not assume the documents prove every role.

The Dutch family/friend checklist explicitly asks who pays international travel and subsistence costs. Check the destination’s own sponsorship documents rather than relying on an informal invitation alone.

Employed, dependent or accompanying a household?

For an employee, compare the approved absence with the travel itinerary. For a dependent, explain the funding arrangement and use the evidence required for your category rather than inventing personal employment.

If travelling with an employer’s family, read the domestic-worker guide. Permission for a private visit is not automatically permission to perform work abroad. Confirm the route with the destination before making commitments.

Keep different countries’ requirements separate

This guide addresses the Schengen application from the UAE. It does not certify Philippine departure formalities, employment-related exit requirements or UAE re-entry conditions for a particular itinerary. If your journey also passes through the Philippines, check that part separately with the relevant authorities.

Before the appointment

Compare names across passport, residence records, bookings and any family documents. Ask about translations where applicable. Keep a secure copy of what you submit and avoid sending identity documents to appointment sellers.
