Switzerland is Schengen, but use Swiss instructions

The Swiss UAE procedure page identifies VFS centres in Abu Dhabi and Dubai and the embassy in Abu Dhabi as the processing authority. It also covers relevant applications for Liechtenstein.

Start from that page to obtain the current tourist, visit or business checklist. A downloaded file from a third-party website may be an older version.

Check residence validity carefully

The current mission page states one month of residence validity beyond planned return and describes renewal-application evidence. If the checklist supplied for your appointment gives different wording, ask the official channel which requirement applies before relying on the shorter period.

Do not assume that another destination’s three-month rule answers the Swiss question. Keep the clarification with your preparation records.

Household employees and family circumstances

The mission links a dedicated tourist/household-employee checklist. Travelling with an employer needs a clear account of intended activities and any work-permission issue; it is not automatically ordinary tourism.

It also describes direct-embassy submission for qualifying Swiss/EU/EFTA family circumstances with an appointment. Check eligibility rather than assuming that everyone should follow the standard tourist booking path.

Prepare the trip evidence

Make a timeline of accommodation and travel. If Switzerland is only a short stop within a longer journey elsewhere, reconsider which country should receive the application.

Budget for the actual trip without treating a daily allowance calculation as a guaranteed bank-balance threshold. Explain any sponsorship according to the applicable checklist.

If the application is refused

The mission states a 30-day period after receipt for the initial challenge. Follow the decision’s instructions for language, submission and any fees; do not copy a France or Germany appeal template.

Current checklist conflict: residence validity

The mission’s linked March 2026 tourism checklist asks for three months beyond departure, whereas its procedure webpage says one month beyond return. Both were checked on 30 August 2026. Tourism checklist.

Ask the Swiss official channel which applies, especially if renewal is pending or you fall between the periods. Do not treat either an online booking acceptance or an older approval as written clarification.

Company owners and self-employed applicants

The linked checklist says company owners also require a company letter but must not sign it themselves; it separately requests the original trade licence from self-employed applicants. Do not issue yourself a generic employee NOC without checking those distinctions.

Reservations and insurance

The checklist instructs applicants not to purchase tickets before obtaining the visa and specifies locally issued travel insurance, excluding credit-card insurance. Check the full wording before buying cover. Current checklist.

A ski holiday or other activity may also need attention to the policy’s exclusions; a visa-compliant certificate should not be assumed to cover every planned activity. Read your policy and ask the insurer about the actual trip.

Use travel reservations and children’s applications for preparation, while retaining the Swiss checklist as the country-specific reference.
