A private visit is not always a tourist application
If the main reason for travel is staying with a relative or friend, use the destination’s private-visit instructions. The host’s documents and any required invitation or accommodation form vary by country.
Start with a clear explanation: whom you are visiting, how you know them, where you will stay and how long the visit lasts. Do not replace the real private stay with a hotel booking that you never intend to use.
Separate hosting from sponsorship
A host can provide accommodation without paying for the whole trip. A financial sponsor can contribute money without being your host. Make the distinction explicit so the documents do not contradict each other.

Gather relationship evidence proportionately
Use genuine records that match the application. Where names differ between documents, explain the difference and follow the official translation or legalisation instructions. Do not assume every family document requires attestation.
For a child travelling, check the destination’s consent and parental-document requirements separately. An adult relative’s invitation does not answer every question about a minor’s travel.
When special EU-family rules might apply
A qualifying non-EU family member accompanying or joining an EU citizen exercising free movement can have a different procedure. Visiting an EU relative does not by itself establish eligibility. Trips to the EU citizen’s own country can fall under different rules.
