France-Visas currently directs UAE residents, including Dubai residents, to VFS Abu Dhabi. France’s consular section makes the decision. Check that France is your responsible destination before booking, then use the official personalised checklist.

Is France the correct country?

Apply to your sole destination, or your main destination by duration or purpose. First entry decides only when no main destination can be determined. Do not choose a country simply because its appointment is available. Visa Code, Article 5.

Where do Dubai residents submit?

The current UAE instructions name VFS Abu Dhabi for residents across the Emirates. The listed centre is Level B2, The Mall, World Trade Center, Khalifa Bin Zayed The 1st Street, Abu Dhabi. Decisions belong to the French consular section, not VFS. Completing the online form alone does not submit your application. Official UAE instructions.

Before travelling to an appointment, check the address on your confirmation. Do not rely on an old downloaded checklist or a directory listing for the centre location.

Application steps

Use the France-Visas process and visa assistant with your nationality, UAE residence and actual purpose.
Complete the application and collect the personalised supporting documents, including any required translations.
Follow the official appointment link and bring the printed application and required evidence. Biometrics may be required; do not assume a previous visa removes every attendance requirement.
Allow for appointment waiting time separately from processing. France-Visas gives a usual processing period of 15 days, potentially extending to 45.

Fees: visa fee and service fee are separate

The standard short-stay application fee is €90; exemptions and reductions apply to some applicants. Check your category rather than assuming every family member pays the adult rate. France-Visas fee FAQ.

The UAE page currently lists a €30.33 basic VFS service fee, collected online in AED at the applicable consular exchange rate. Optional services cost extra. Visa fees are retained after refusal. We do not publish a fixed AED total because the payable conversion can change. UAE fee instructions.

How much money does France require?

France publishes these daily subsistence references for arrival checks:

For partial hotel coverage, France applies €65 to booked days and €120 to the remaining days. These are not a universal UAE salary threshold or a guaranteed application bank balance. France-Visas arrival requirements.

For example, seven hotel-covered days give a €455 daily-reference calculation. That arithmetic is not your complete travel budget and does not guarantee approval. Keep funds evidence consistent with the trip you actually intend to take.

What if France refuses the application?

France-Visas describes a 30-day postal challenge period. For short-stay refusals from 1 January 2023, the prior appeal is to the Deputy Director of Visas, in French, signed and reasoned. Follow the refusal notice immediately and obtain qualified advice for your case; do not substitute the long-stay appeal route. Official appeal instructions.

Private stays and shared travel costs

When staying with a host, use the France-Visas assistant for that purpose instead of substituting a hotel reservation for accommodation you do not intend to use. Explain separately who provides the accommodation and who pays other costs.

Keep your France file aligned

As a practical final check, compare the printed application, travel dates, accommodation, leave and funding explanation. If part of the trip is elsewhere in Schengen, make that visible; do not hide it to make France appear to be the main destination.

Tracking and collection

France-Visas says follow-up is handled through the centre where the application was submitted. Use that route and retain the reference, rather than contacting a different centre based on an old Dubai directory listing. Official process.
