Multiple entry answers only one part of the question

A visa can permit one entry, two entries or multiple entries. That is separate from its validity dates and the number of days you may spend in the area. Check all these fields before arranging repeat travel.

For example, a visa valid for several years does not let you remain continuously for those years. Use the 90/180-day calculator alongside the actual conditions printed on your visa.

Explain a genuine need for repeat travel

If you expect several trips, describe them honestly. You can organise your supporting explanation around:

  • The confirmed first journey.
  • The reason further visits are likely.
  • Evidence supporting that reason.
  • Your previous lawful travel, where relevant.
  • Your current UAE circumstances and funding.

Do not invent future conferences or purchase unnecessary bookings to create a travel pattern.

What previous visas can—and cannot—prove

Previous compliant travel may support the application, but a collection of visa stickers is not a promise of a particular validity. Decisions remain subject to the applicable rules and assessment. The Visa Code allows multiple-entry visas with validity up to five years; that maximum is not a default entitlement.

Keep a simple record of old visas and the trips made using them. An unused visa and one used lawfully are not interchangeable descriptions of travel history.

Indian passport holders in the UAE

The EU’s April 2024 announcement of a more favourable arrangement expressly concerns Indian nationals residing and applying in India. Do not assume the same published arrangement applies because you hold an Indian passport while applying from Dubai.

See the Indian-passport UAE guide for that residence distinction.

Before your second trip

Recheck passport validity, remaining visa validity, entry conditions and days already used. If your circumstances or travel purpose changed, consult the responsible official service. Never rely on a salesperson’s “guaranteed five-year visa” claim when paying for assistance.

A repeat-trip explanation you can prepare

Use a short table of the genuine first trip and any reasonably evidenced later visits. Mark later dates as tentative when they are not confirmed. Attach relevant evidence only where it supports the actual reason for repeated travel.

Do not describe a wish to receive a five-year visa as proof of a five-year travel commitment. A multiple-entry request should remain consistent with the first trip’s purpose and your current passport validity.

Does a new passport or UAE residence change the answer?

Separate the validity of an existing visa from eligibility for a new one. If your passport is renewed, ask the issuing authority about travel with the visa in the old passport; do not detach or transfer the sticker yourself.

If your UAE residence or job changes before another application, provide the current situation rather than recycling obsolete evidence from the last file. Consult residence validity and passport validity.

MULT is not permission to work or stay indefinitely

Repeated entry, permitted days and authorised activities are separate questions. A weekend outside Schengen does not reset your previous days. Calculate the rolling window using the day calculator and read any more restrictive conditions on the sticker.
