The UAE residence distinction matters

India is listed among visa-required nationalities in Regulation 2018/1806. Your UAE residence affects where you apply; it does not turn an Indian passport into a visa-exempt Emirati passport. Individual exemptions still need checking.

The important nationality-specific pitfall is the EU’s April 2024 India announcement. It expressly describes the enhanced cascade for Indian nationals residing in India who apply in India. It is not a blanket promise of a two-year visa for an Indian resident of Dubai.

Build the file around your life in the UAE

Use your current UAE residence and employment or sponsorship circumstances. Do not download an India-resident checklist merely because its title mentions Indian passports.

Before collecting documents, write down:

  • Your actual travel purpose and main destination.
  • Your current residence-document expiry and any pending renewal.
  • Who will fund the trip and where that funding is documented.
  • Your proposed return to the UAE and any later travel to India.
  • Whether your passport or name has changed since previous visas.

This is a preparation worksheet, not an extra mandatory form.

Previous travel is evidence, not a promise

Keep previous visas and actual travel dates organised. Separate visas you obtained from visas you actually used. If you request multiple entries, explain the genuine need without assuming an entitlement based on a social-media account of someone else’s result.

Read the issued sticker even if the validity is shorter than requested.

Choose the right local channel

For example, the Netherlands UAE instructions direct applicants through VFS and the purpose-specific checklist. Other destinations have different routing; Italy distinguishes Abu Dhabi-issued residence from Dubai and Northern Emirates applications.

Use application centres after identifying the responsible destination. No country is recommended here as “easy for Indians,” and no nationality-wide approval rate predicts your individual outcome.
