Start with the Dutch UAE instructions

The official UAE application page directs applicants to VFS and the checklist matching the main purpose. It also covers Luxembourg applications at the Dutch UAE locations. Complete your own application form rather than reusing another person’s coded form.

The page advises applying no later than 45 days before the trip. Treat that as a destination-specific planning instruction, not permission to wait until the general minimum.

Check the current waiting-time notice

At this check, the Dutch processing page gives a high-season average of 25 calendar days and warns that cases can take up to 45. Time is counted from receipt of the necessary file and passport by the Consular Services Organization.

Do not assume the day you clicked “book appointment” starts that period.

Prepare an evidence map

List your real purpose, accommodation, travel dates and funding arrangement. For a visit to relatives or friends, use that checklist rather than describing it as tourism simply because you will stay in a hotel.

If the host provides accommodation but not financial support, say so. If a UAE-based relative pays instead, distinguish that person from the European host.

Keep copies of the submitted documents and tracking details. Avoid sharing account passwords with an appointment seller.

After the decision

A collection notification is not the same as confirmation of approval. Check the returned passport and decision documents.

For Dutch decisions, the IND objection guidance provides a four-week objection period beginning the day after announcement of the decision. Follow the notice and current IND instructions, especially where someone represents you.

Before travelling

Review the visa’s dates, territory, entry count and days. Use visa validity versus stay to avoid treating a longer-validity sticker as permission to remain continuously in Europe.

Self-employment, family support and ties to the UAE

The Dutch checklist provides different ways to document personal circumstances rather than assuming all applicants are salaried. Use the self-employed guide if you run a business, and the sponsorship guide when someone else pays.

A useful preparation exercise is to label which evidence explains your activity, which explains funding and which explains accommodation. A single bank balance does not answer all three questions.

Do you need to buy flight tickets first?

The Dutch tourism checklist explicitly says a paid travel ticket is not required. Use genuine reservation or travel-plan evidence matching its instructions. Dutch tourism checklist.

Review the reservation guide before paying for a non-refundable ticket. Keep the travel names and dates aligned with your actual application.

Children and family appointments

Do not assume the family can reuse one coded application form. Check each traveller’s booking and documents, and follow the children’s guide for consent questions.

If your circumstances do not match the tourism checklist, start with the correct purpose-specific instructions. A private visit and a hotel holiday can need different accommodation evidence even when both include sightseeing.
