Define the activity before selecting the category

“Business” can mean very different things: a trade fair, client meeting, conference, training course or hands-on work at a customer’s premises. Describe the actual activity instead of assuming the label covers everything.

France’s official business-visit guidance covers activities such as meetings, fairs and conferences and asks for evidence connecting the visit to professional activity. For installation, on-site services, paid work or a longer assignment, ask the destination’s official service whether separate authorisation is needed.

Make the invitation useful

Ask the host to explain the purpose, dates, location and relevant contact person. A generic letter saying “business discussion” may leave the practical story unclear. Where costs are covered, the invitation or separate undertaking should identify which costs and who is responsible.

Compare the invitation with:

  • Your UAE employer’s letter and role.
  • Event registration or meeting schedule.
  • Accommodation and transport dates.
  • The funding evidence requested by the destination.
  • Any personal holiday added before or after the business activity.

Do not create fictitious meetings to support an application.

Explain who pays

An employer-funded trip and a self-employed applicant paying from personal funds need different explanations. Label each document by what it proves: professional relationship, company funding, personal funds or accommodation.

For a mixed business-and-holiday trip, separate the costs honestly. A company invitation does not automatically establish that the host pays for extra leisure nights.

Self-employed UAE applicants

Prepare evidence of the real business relationship and your role using the destination’s checklist. Trade licences, contracts or correspondence can help explain context when requested, but there is no universal document bundle that replaces the official requirements.

Avoid presenting yourself as an employee if you own the business. See the NOC and employer-letter guide for the distinction.

Final check

Ensure the application describes the same activity as the invitation. If the activity changes after submission, seek instructions rather than assuming an existing visa covers it. Leave enough time for both appointment availability and processing.
