Read the fields together
The Dutch government’s sticker guide distinguishes the travel window, days of stay, entry count and countries covered.

Do this check as soon as the passport returns, while there is time to report an error.
Example: a longer window than the holiday
Imagine a single-entry visa valid from 1 to 30 September, authorising ten days. Entering on 5 September and leaving on 14 September uses ten days. The end date of 30 September does not make the extra days available.
Conversely, arriving late in the validity period does not move the expiry date. Ten authorised days cannot simply be added after the printed final date.
Multiple entry is not unlimited stay
A visa marked MULT permits repeated entries within its conditions. It does not restart the day count after a weekend outside Schengen. See the official single-/multiple-entry explanation.
For a longer-validity multiple-entry visa, check the rolling allowance with the calculator before booking another visit. Do not treat the printed 90 as either 90 new days on every entry or necessarily 90 total days over several years.
Travel outside Schengen during the same holiday
Write down every departure from and return to the area. A side trip may use another entry, even if the whole holiday was booked as one itinerary.
If the sticker and your application differ, contact the issuing authority. Travel according to the permission actually issued, not the permission you requested.
