The UAE route

Malta’s foreign ministry says applications are lodged through VFS centres in Abu Dhabi and Dubai and that an appointment is required. VFS receives the application and biometrics; it does not decide whether a visa is granted.

What to prepare

Follow the latest checklist for the actual purpose: tourism, business or visiting family and friends. Every applicant needs a separate application. Match the requested dates across the form, flights, accommodation, leave approval, insurance and funding evidence.

Apply early enough

Malta says applications may be lodged no more than six months before travel and ordinarily no later than 15 calendar days before it. Its UAE guidance also warns that seasonal appointment waits can last several weeks. Do not buy a non-refundable trip because a slot has been requested.

Airport transit Type A — airport transit	Passing through the international zone of a Schengen airport without entering the territory. Some nationalities require an airport transit visa for the international zone itself — and this is one of the places where the passport matters more than anything else in the file.
