Start with the responsible-country rule

Use Portugal’s route when Portugal is the main purpose or longest stay in your Schengen itinerary. Do not choose it because an appointment appears convenient. If the longest stays are equal, the first-entry rule may decide competence.

Where to submit in the UAE

Portugal’s current VFS portal identifies application centres in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Start from the country-specific portal, choose the correct visa purpose and confirm the centre shown during booking. Do not use a link sent by an appointment reseller.

Prepare a Portugal-specific file

Use the current checklist reached through the official portal. Your passport, UAE residence, Emirates ID, itinerary, accommodation, insurance, employment or sponsorship evidence and finances should describe one consistent trip. Keep optional VFS services separate from the visa fee.

Timing

The Portuguese government says an application may be lodged between six months and, ordinarily, 15 days before intended entry. That is a filing rule, not a promise that a late application will be decided before travel. Allow for appointment availability and passport return.

Most consulates still want to see the applicant’s own means and own ties.
Airport transit Type A — airport transit	Passing through the international zone of a Schengen airport without entering the territory.	Onward ticket, and the visa or entry right for the final destination.	Assuming transit needs no visa. Some nationalities require an airport transit visa for the international zone itself — and this is one of the places where the passport matters more than anything else in the file.
Multiple-entry (MEV) Type C — cascade	Repeat travel on one visa, issued with longer validity to applicants with a documented history of lawful use.
